About This Event

Come join the Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District and Maine Woodland Owners as we tour the Williamsburg Forest, formerly known as the "Demonstration Forest," located in Williamsburg, ME. Over the last year and half, PCSWCD Board supervisors, volunteers and staff have been working to rehabilitate this forest for the community. This tour will highlight some of the work that has been done, currently in process, along with discussion about how it is being managed and the Forest Management Plan development that will incorporate Women owing Woodland network, Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) through Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) and Maine Audubon's Forestry for Maine Birds programs. We will be speaking directly to the consulting forester, Molly London, UMaine School of Forest Resources graduate student Elisa Schine, and supervisors Jensen Bissell and Executive Director Sarah Robinson. The tour is free and will start at 9AM. Please be prepared to walk the trails and on uneven terrain. We look forward to seeing you there!

DIRECTIONS to FOREST

From ME-11 in Brownville: Take a left onto High Street across from the AE Robinson Irving. It goes up Brown Hill and continues past Moses Greenleaf monument. This road will turn into the Old Williamsburg Road, and will turn to dirt, passing several homes. The site is 2/3 of a mile beyond the last home and is marked with a sign on the right hand side.

From Sebec Village: Follow the paved road north to Moses Greenleaf monument or the “T” in the road. Turn left and continue north on the Old Williamsburg Road. The road turns to dirt, passing several homes. The site is 2/3 of a mile beyond the last home and is marked with a sign on the right hand side.
