Love Maine Trails by finishing the loop of the newly created Grinnell Woods Trail. We will hike the completed section then follow the brushed out loop to the future picnic site. There we will split into two teams clearing and widening the trail and meet back at the beautiful hemlock grove for light snacks.
Please bring your daypack, hike/work boots, insect repellent, water bottle, safety glasses (we have spares if needed), and work gloves. Bring loppers, nippers, or camping/trail saws if you have them.
Youths 14 or older welcome and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the duration of the event.
Spaces are limited and registration is required. E-mail us to register.
Rain date: Sunday, June 29
The Grinnell Woods Trail when completed will be a 1.9 lollipop trail through a 100-acre woods that borders the Little Medomak Brook on the west edge, and an old spruce bog along its east boundary. Hike in on the wood chip trail, continue on the logging mats before you cross the bridge designed to rise on its moorings during spring runoffs and heavy rains. A moderate rise takes you to an old hemlock grove. When completed, the loop will begin and end at the grove. Clear cut in the late 1950s, it as an example of a natural forest recovery.
