Come help push a new Moosehead Lake Region trail towards finalization! The Prong Pond Trail currently needs blazing, clearing of winter damage, additional tread work, and clearing of a modest section leading to the future trail head. Work will consist of lopping, painting blazes, clearing small debris, work with hand tools, and perhaps raking and/or leaf-blowing. The Prong Pond Trail will be a relatively short trail to a pond overlook and shoreline peninsula. The trail is naturally surfaced and uneven, but there is no major elevation change and the total trail distance is slightly less than a mile.
Tools and personal protection equipment such as hard hats and eye protection will be provided, though individuals are encouraged to bring their own loppers, eye protection, etc. should they have such items. Participants should bring their own gloves, sturdy footwear, day-pack, water, and lunch.
Volunteers will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Katahdin Parking Lot in Greenville to carpool to Prong Pond. We'll return to our vehicles by 4 p.m. You may also wish to drive directly to the trail head located in Beaver Cove, Prong Pond Road.
Directions to the Parking Area:
Follow Lily Bay Road North through downtown Greenville toward Beaver Cove. After passing by the town office on the right, continue on for about a mile until you see the signs for the B52 Site. Turn right at this sign. Travel down the dirt secondary road until you see a large parking lot on the left (~1 mile).
