At 1,280 feet, Bald Mountain is the fifth highest peak on the eastern seaboard and offers excellent views of Western Penobscot Bay and surrounding coastal mountains. Bald Mountain is also home to one of the midcoast’s largest rare subalpine natural communities. An interpretive sign near the summit helps describe this habitat and identifies some of the more unusual alpine plants found on the mountaintop.
