Description

At 1,280 feet, Bald Mountain is the fifth highest peak on the eastern seaboard and offers excellent views of Western Penobscot Bay and surrounding coastal mountains. Bald Mountain is also home to one of the midcoast’s largest rare subalpine natural communities. An interpretive sign near the summit helps describe this habitat and identifies some of the more unusual alpine plants found on the mountaintop.

Trail Tips

Plan Ahead and Prepare
Use common sense. If it seems like a bad idea, it probably is.

Trailhead Information

From US-1 in Camden, take John Street 0.8 miles to Hosmer Pond Road (which becomes Barnestown Road after the Camden Snow Bowl). Follow 3.5 miles to the preserve parking lot on the left, just past Gillette Road.

This trailhead serves as a starting point for the Bald Mountain Trail, and the Georges Highland Path, which crosses Barnestown Road and continues up Ragged Mountain.
