From the Town Pier, the path heads East past the Bar Harbor Inn, then turns south along the eastern shore of Mount Desert Island. At the end of the walking path, you can either return via the path or take another path that leads to Main Street via Wayman Lane, and then return through town.
This path was built around 1880, and its quiet calm and scenic views have brought enjoyment to many. Highlights include the ocean views, heading down to the beach to look for sea creatures or smooth rocks, or smelling the Rosa rugosa (beach rose) in bloom in the summer. The Porcupine Islands, Balance Rock, Egg Rock Light and the Schoodic Peninsula are just a few of the coastal sights along the way.
The Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association maintains the path on behalf of the abutting landowners as well as the Town’s residents.

Town of Bar HarborPark in downtown Bar Harbor and walk to the Town Pier (next to Agamont Park) to find the start of the Shore Path. Parking is available at the waterfront, but can be crowded in the summer.
