Description

The trail turns off of Rumford Avenue, descending a short set of steps into a wooded area with a wide, grassy pathway. Shortly down from the trailhead is an overlook of Androscoggin River with a semi-circle stone wall that is perfect for sitting and taking in the falls or having a snack. The trail continues through the woods, with views of the falls and the river the whole way and ends when the trail ascends a staircase back up to Rumford Avenue.

Trail Tips

Leave What You Find
Leave the trail work to the pros: they will add or remove blazes, cairns (stone trail markers), structures, and trail improvements as deemed necessary.

Trailhead Information

At the intersection where US-2 and ME-120 meet in central Rumford, drive south on US-2 (Hancock Street) for 0.4 miles. Continue straight when Hancock Street becomes Rumford Avenue. In 450 feet, take second exit from the traffic circle onto Portland Street. Immediately after the bridge, turn right onto River Street, then immediately right into the municipal parking area.

To access the trail from here, turn left out of the parking lot and walk across the bridge. At the end of the bridge stay left onto the sidewalk of Rumford Avenue. Continue past the public library and the large boulder; the trailhead is marked by a sign on the left.

Notice: Library parking is only for library visitors.
