Description

Put on the southwest, upriver side of the bridge. The access to the river is fairly steep, but doable. The current starts strong under the bridge, but almost immidiately becomes very gentle, and remains that way for the paddle down the river 2.5 to Eagle Lake, with no rapids to worry about.

The river passes under a railroad bridge just after the put-in. The river is wide, with an attractive shoreline lined with cedars, and with opportunities to see beavers, muskrats, eagles and occasionally moose.

At the wide mouth of the river, there is a large island covered with hardwoods. The flats near here are a popular spot to pick fiddleheads, a regional delicacy, in the spring of the year.

Once on Eagle Lake, heading west down the shoreline it is about 1 mile to the public boat landing located on Old Main Street.

Baring stopping to pick fiddleheads, this trip can be done in a couple of hours.

Caution: on windy days Eagle Lake can be challenging to paddle and potentially dangerous.
