Description

On the site of a working commercial apple orchard, Five Fields Farm has offered cross-country skiing and winter recreation for over a decade. The trail system starts on the back lawn of the buildings and total a 13.5 kilometer (8.4 mile) network. Looping around the orchards, it connects with the logging roads, and links with lands owned by abutters, including the Loon Echo Land Trust on Bald Pate Mountain.

While groomed trails do not extend to the summit of Bald Pate Mountain, snowshoe hikers and more adventuresome skiers regularly make the 20 minute back-country trek for a view to the horizon including numerous ponds, lakes, and on clear days Mount Washington.

Trails are largely one way, with bi-directional skiing only where absolutely necessary. Guidance and terrain is available to start the inexperienced, and the trail system is designed such that new skiers will rapidly be able to access all portions.

Trail fees are required for winter use and cover the costs of grooming and maintaining the trails year-round. For skiers who access Five Fields Farm from Holt Pond or Bald Pate Mountain, please stop by the farmhouse and make a donation to support the trails you use.
