This spot is where the community started. Fort Halifax was the founding location for Winslow, from which Waterville split in 1802. The park offers a pleasant walk to the point, and upstream through a silver maple grove to the ledges leading to Ticonic Falls. It’s the perfect place for a picnic. Fishermen love the shorelines of both the Kennebec and Sebasticook Rivers.
This park is the gathering place for the region's 4th of July celebration, with bands playing in the pavilion and fireworks set off from the point. Fort Halifax is on the National Register of Historic Buildings and is the oldest wooden block house in the country.

Town of WinslowFrom I-95, take exits to Waterville. If you go downtown, take the bridge across the Kennebec and turn right at the light onto Bay Street, then drive south 0.6 miles. Alternatively, from Kennedy Memorial Drive, take the Carter Bridge (Route 137 across the Kennebec to the first light, then turn left on the Augusta Road into Winslow, cross the Sebasticook Bridge onto Bay Street. The entrance is at 70-98 Bay Street. Cross the railroad and park in front of a row of tall cedars next to Fort Halifax.
