Description

This trail loops around on the mainland portion of a 38 acre parcel of upland, wetlands, and two islands. The trail follows a well established forest path and includes benches overlooking Pushaw Lake and wetlands as well as excellent bird-watching (species seen include eagles, loons, and great blue herons). There are also glacial erratic boulders and a geocache that add interest to the trail. Though a relatively easy trail, there are some steep pitches on the access trail and in a few places along the loop itself.

Trail Tips

Plan Ahead and Prepare
Know your limits – it’s okay to turn back. Your home is the ultimate destination, not the summit.

Trailhead Information

Access to this property is at Gould's Landing located at the end of Essex Street in Orono. From Bangor, follow Essex Street north out of Bangor to its end at Pushaw Lake at Gould's Landing. From downtown Orono, take Forest Avenue west, heading out of town all the way to its intersection with Essex Street (4.3 miles past its intersection with Stillwater Avenue); turn right onto Essex Street and follow it another mile to its end on Pushaw Lake.

Parking is located next to the trail, and to the canoe/kayak launch, beach area, and covered picnic tables. A kiosk on the forested side of Gould's Landing marks the walking trail access.
