Description

This trail winds through the woods, skirting the western side of the Fish River. The trail also follows the edge of Jalbert Park, behind Fort Kent Elementary School. Proximity to the park and the school give the trail easy access to plenty of places for children to play as well as multi-use fields, tennis courts, and (in the winter) an ice skating rink. The trail ends at an environmental education park with informational kiosks. The trail can be walked on its own, but also connects to the Crocker Beach Trail and the St. John Valley Heritage Trail so the walk can be extended farther.

Trail Tips

Plan Ahead and Prepare
Be prepared for emergencies. Pack extra clothing, food, and water and also a flashlight, first aid and repair kit, matches/fire starters, whistle, signaling mirror, and pocket knife.

Trailhead Information

To access the trail from US-1/West Main Street in Fort Kent, turn right onto ME-11/Aroostook Road and head away from town. Turn left onto Baker Street; at the Y in the road go right. Continue to the end of the road where parking is available. From this parking area, the southern end of the trail is closest, but there is another trailhead available along the St. John Valley Heritage Trail, 0.2 miles east of the Heritage Trail's intersection with Aroostook Road.
