Description

The trail begins in a field before entering the woods. To the left of the trail in the fields, visitors can view a historic family cemetery and heritage garden. Once within the woods, the loop portion of the trail begins at a fork. To the right, the trail passes Whittaker Brook and winds down to the Union River, before looping back. The winding trail traverses bog bridging, stone staircases, and a wooden bridge, with a peaceful and secluded feel.

Constructed in the summer of 2019 by Frenchman Bay Conservancy staff, volunteers, and a crew from the Maine Conservation Corps, the trail is designed to be open and inviting. Deer, bald eagles, and osprey are all commonly spotted here.

Other Information

The Jordan Homestead Preserve was owned by the Jordan family for more than 200 years before it was acquired by Frenchman Bay Conservancy in 2017.

Trailhead Information

Jordan Homestead Preserve is located on the Bayside Road in Ellsworth, between Lundin Way and Pioneer Farm Way.

From downtown Ellsworth, head south on ME-230 (Water Street) from the stoplight at the bottom of Main Street near the bridge. After 0.8 miles, Water Street turns into Bayside Road. Continue straight on the Bayside Road another 0.8 miles (1.6 miles from the stoplight) to the unpaved parking lot on the right, marked with a sign. From the parking lot, the trail crosses the field to enter the woods.
