Description

The 153 acre Libby River Farm was formerly a saltwater farm purchased by Scarborough Land Trust (SLT) in 1997 from the Larrabee Family. Later, adjacent wetlands were purchased by SLT and Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The property is located next to the state-owned 3,100 acre Scarborough Marsh, the largest saltwater marsh in Maine. The preserve is also adjacent to Campfire USA Camp Ketcha, and all of these parcels effectively create a much larger conserved area of wetlands, uplands and riparian areas which create a diversity of habitat types favorable to many animals, especially shorebirds. The forested areas are occasionally selectively cut in accordance with a forest management plan.

Stay left at the kiosk and continue for 0.4 miles to reach the Libby River Farm trails, which feature a self-guided nature trail and observation platform over Scarborough Marsh. Individuals are welcome to explore Camp Ketcha’s trails when programs are not in operation.

Other Information

Pets are permitted, but must be on a leash to avoid disturbing Camp Ketcha programs and property.

Please note that biking is not allowed on the preserve.
