A kiosk with trail information and a trail map is located at the trailhead parking area. A network trail branches out three ways from the parking area. Heading on the trail at the left side of the parking lot brings you through White Pine and Paper Birch forest. The footbed is a combination of gravel and leaf litter; this area is easy to navigate and is relatively flat. Tall pines planted in rows hint of a tree farm past. Trail heads uphill and branches with a side trail heading toward Bangor High School. Continuing into the forest, the trail passes a stand of American Beech and on past the school. Another kiosk is located at this section, this has a trail map and information about plants that grow in the area.
The path leads to a crossroads in a mixed stand largely made up of of old growth White Pine and Eastern Red Cedar. Heading onto the northward branch of the trail brings you up a small hill and through Eastern Hemlock and Balsam Fir with the forest floor covered in ferns. Trails are well defined with lots of shade. Shortly, the trail heads off to the left and right; the left side of the trail heads back to the school and a picnic area. Heading to the right continues through the forest going in a loop back toward the parking area.
The trail passes some exposed rocky outcroppings and goes over several small streams. There are benches available along the sides of the trail to stop and enjoy the fresh air and the amazingly straight and tall White Pines. The trail branches shortly after a brief break in the forest canopy. At this juncture, the trail heads straight to the road and to the right back toward the parking area. Heading back to the parking area brings you past a clay stream bed on a flat section of trail.
The shade of the tall trees here provide a wonderful escape from the hot sun in the summer months. This spot s ideal for running, dog-walking, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
