Description

The Readfield Fairgrounds is a 35-acre property owned by the Town of Readfield which was the historic site of a major agricultural fair and is now a mixture of fields and forest land. The property abuts the 300-acre Maranacook Community School property.  A 1 mile network of interconnecting trails has been constructed on the property including the McDougald Trail, Upper Fairgrounds Trail, and Lower Fairgrounds Trail. These trails travel through both field and forest over gently sloping terrain. Most of the trails have a crushed rock surface with the remainder being hard-packed dirt or gravel.

In addition, the trails interconnect with the town's newly constructed sidewalk along ME Route 17 (Main Street) and Millard Harrison Drive, which connects back to the Maranacook-Fairgrounds Link Trail to create numerous loop opportunities. This sidewalk also continues to the Maranacook Community School property and its trail system, allowing for extended trip opportunities.

There are two primary trailhead access points with parking; one located on the Church Road and the other on Millard Harrison Drive (access road to Maranacook Community School). The Upper Fairgrounds and McDougald Trails leave from the Church Road parking area and connect with the Upper and Lower Fairgrounds Trails.  The Maranacook-Fairgrounds Link Trail leaves from the Maranacook Trailhead and connects with the Upper Fairgrounds Trail.
