Description

The Timberdoodle Trail travels just over 0.1 miles between the partially paved parking lot and the viewing platform along smooth, wide, and level graded pavement. Conifers and field grasses hug the sides of the gently winding trail. The sturdy wooden viewing platform features a wheelchair accessible ramp and hand rails and offers a relaxing vantage from which to observe the birds and other wildlife that inhabit the forests of the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. The view overlooks a regenerating clearing maintained at an early successional stage to provide habitat preferred by the American Woodcock (aka, Timberdoodle).

Trail Tips

Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Stick to established trails and campsites. If there's no trail, try to walk on rock, gravel, or snow and spread out so that your group doesn't create a trail.

Trailhead Information

Parking for the Timberdoodle Trail is located in a gravel lot 0.5 miles east of US-1 on the South Trail access road in Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. The entrance to South Trail off of US-1 is marked with a small road sign, several wooden informational signs, and a gate. An informational kiosk less than 100 feet down South Trail and just past the gate can be seen from US-1. The parking lot for the Timberdoodle Trail is well marked and includes a paved accessible parking spot that is connected to the paved surface of the trail.
