To reach the trailhead for the Emery Path, proceed past the Sieur de Monts Nature Center, cross the small wooden bridge, and turn left. Turn right to pass by two large stones inscribed with "Sieur de Monts Spring" and "Sweet Waters of Acadia" and then to the trailhead.
The Emery Path begins with an ascent up numerous stone steps, a good example of the high-quality trail work found throughout the park. The trail continues up the stone steps, steeply at times, through the woods 0.3 miles to a trail junction. The Emery Path proceeds with a sharp turn to the left at the junction. From here, the trail continues across more intricate stonework, with views to the east. A pull-off with a bench offers hikers the chance to pause and take in the views of Great Meadows, Bar Harbor, and the Porcupine Islands beyond.
0.5 miles from the trailhead, the Emery Path reaches the junction with the Schiff Path and Kurt Diederichs Climb; the loop continues bearing right onto the Schiff Path.
The Schiff Path heads south with more gentle grade changes for 0.5 miles, with views of the Tarn below and out to Frenchman Bay. Upon reaching the junction with the Ladder Trail, the Schiff Path heads up to the right, ascending steeply up the east face of Dorr Mountain over large slabs of granite. 0.5 miles from the junction with the Ladder Trail, the Schiff Path reaches the ridge. The summit is 0.1 miles to the left. The loop continues down the Dorr North Ridge Trail to the right.
The North Ridge trail gently descends across partially-open granite interspersed with small trees, until descending into forest. 0.9 miles from the Dorr Summit, the loop continues by taking a right at the next junction, onto the Hemlock Trail. The Hemlock trail leads a short 0.2 miles to the Hemlock Path, a wide, flat path back to the Jesup Path and the Sieur de Monts Nature Center and parking area.
