The Joost Family Preserve includes a field, a trail through the forest, and views of the Eastern Channel and mudflats.
The easy 0.7 mile Eastern Channel Trail leads through a field and forest, featuring views of the Eastern Channel and mudflats where there are often ducks. A variety of wildlife may make an appearance, including porcupines and ground-nesting birds, so keep your dogs on-leash at all times.
The preserve is open year-round to foot traffic and snowshoeing in winter.

The Joost Family Preserve is at 150 East Side Drive on Verona Island.
To get to the Eastern Channel Trail trailhead, head south from Bucksport on the bridge to Verona Island. 0.2 miles after the bridge take a left onto East Side Drive. Continue for 2 miles to a small gravel parking lot on the left side of the road.
