This nature preserve serves to protect wildlife habitat while offering the public a network of trails for outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and hunting. The property is mostly wooded with a meandering stream that running through it, and is within walking distance to several neighborhoods in Cumberland Center, Main Street, and the Greely school campus.
The trail from Greely Road Extension is blazed blue; the trail from Lockwood Lane is blazed orange; the trail from Crystal Lane is blazed yellow.
Combining the blue-blazed trail with a green-blazed trail running through the center of the property creates a loop, circling around a small pond at the southwest end, and making for a lollipop loop of 1.2 miles from the trailhead on Greely Road Extension.
The trails at Greely Woods are often wet, proper footwear is recommended.
Greely Woods used to serve as wood lots for private landowners, although there has been no logging on the property for several decades. Acquired in the 1990s, the Town held on to the three parcels that now make up Greely Woods because of their proximity to the town center and recreation potential, and in 2019 worked with CCLT to protect the parcel with a conservation easement.
