The Island Trail begins at the parking lot for the Blockhouse, then turns into the riverside woods for the majority of the trail. Along the way, there are environmental education kiosks that inform visitors about the surrounding area. Great views of the St. John River and Canada are available where the trail skirts the river. The trail continues through the woods and loops back around to the parking lot where it began.

On the southeast side of the East Main Street bridge over the Fish River, turn onto Blockhouse Road and continue for 500 feet where parking is available on the right. The trailhead is off of the parking lot.
