Description

Maggie's Nature Park was donated to the Town of Greenwood by Maggie Ring, a life-long resident and conservationist. The Mahoosuc Land Trust holds a conservation easement on the land that ensures it will remain undeveloped. Blaine Mills, another Greenwood resident, is the Park's volunteer trail designer and maintainer. The park contains several enjoyable trails that wind through the woods providing superb views of the surrounding areas. All the trails are well-marked, each with different color blazes.

The highlight of the Park is Peaked Mountain Bluff with views of Twitchell Pond. Peaked Mountain can be accessed by several different routes. The quickest is via the Peaked Mountain Trail, which navigates a moderate uphill slope through the forest. Eventually the trail splits to form a loop around the Bluff, with various views from the ledges.

The Ledge Trail is a short, easy side trail off the Peaked Mountain Trail that leads to a ledge with views of North and South Ponds.

Another scenic overlook can be reached by the Loop Trail, which climbs moderately to a view of Mount Abram and some of its ski trails and then returns to the parking lot. This is an especially enjoyable trail that meanders among large ledges and boulders through open hardwood forest.

Other Information

The trail blazes are frequent and brightly painted but in many places the open, leaf-covered forest floor can make actual route of the trail hard to follow if you don't look up regularly.

The Mahoosuc Land Trust holds an easement on this property and encourages public interest in land conservation while working to strengthen the connection between people and the land. It supports a balance of growth and conservation and emphasize sustainable forestry, recreation, agriculture, and traditional land uses.

I hiked the network today. All trails are in good condition, free of snow and ice and are mostly dry.

What a lovely addition to the area! We did the yellow trail to the top of Peaked Mountain and it was just wonderful. The trail was easy to follow and well laid out (with hysterical string boundaries marking the no-shortcuts at the switchbacks. The hardwood forest at the top is beautiful and although there is only one view, it's a stunner!
