Follow the Riverview Trail through a mature forest of pine, oak, and shagbark hickory with access to outstanding views of vast salt marshes and the meandering York River. This region has long been recognized for its biological diversity and outstanding habitat for various waterbirds. As part of the York River Estuary, Smelt Brook Preserve provides you with the opportunity to see exceptional shorebirds including great blue herons, night herons, white egrets, and kingfishers.
Smelt Brook Preserve is open for daytime use only. Please travel on existing trails to protect this important ecosystem and respect abutting property owners. Walking, skiing, and snowshoeing are allowed. Please keep dogs leashed at all times and clean up after them.
Be aware of changing conditions and tides. Take precautions against and check frequently for ticks. Hunting is permitted in this area and Maine hunting laws apply.

York Land TrustParking is located at the Highland Farm Preserve. From the junction of ME-1 and ME-91 in York, follow ME-91 north 3.0 miles to the Highland Farm Preserve entrance on the right. The Riverview Trail starts at the parking lot and crosses ME-91 before entering the woods. Use caution when crossing ME-91 as vehicles often travel at high rates of speed.
