This trail follows along the Seboeis River for about a mile to the Seboeis River Grand Pitch and its confluence with Shin Brook. The hike can be accomplished in 1 to 2 hours and is suitable for hikers of average ability. Most of the trail stays near the riparian zone, with mixed canopy of hardwoods and large pines. At several points the trail descends to the river's edge, offering long views up or down river from rocky outcroppings.
The trail ends at a dramatic gorge including the Seboeis River Grand Pitch. Paddlers frequently use the trail here as a portage around these rapids. There is a small picnic area in the trees just below the pitch where Shin Brook flows into the river. Looking downstream, Sugarloaf Mountain is a distinctive landmark.
The Seboeis River has a significant history beginning in the late 1800s when waterways were used to transport logs. Timber harvested from these forests were floated down the Seboeis River, and eventually the Penobscot River, until they finally reached a mill. Fisherman have also long valued the Seboeis River for its run of wild Eastern Brook Trout.

From Patten, follow ME-159W towards Baxter State Park's North Matagamon gate; 5.7 miles past Shin Pond the parking area is on the right, just before a bridge across the Seboeis River. The trailhead is across the road from the parking area.
The trailhead area includes several picnic tables in a riverside meadow and a primitive restroom.
