With its wide, flat surface and easy grade, the Bikeway is suitable for a wide variety of users. It connects downtown Unity to Unity College to the east, and to The CommUnity Trails Fairgrounds Loop to the west.

Description

The Bikeway includes a half mile of the Hills to Sea Trail between Unity College and US-202, sweeping through a large field near the College, then over a bridge crossing Sandy Stream. The Bikeway continues an additional half mile on the west side of US-202 to connect with the CommUnity Trails Fairground Loop. It is 10 feet wide with a stone dust surface east of US-202, and somewhat narrower west of US-202, and ideal for walking, dog-walking, jogging, biking, and cross-country skiing. The trail is mostly flat with two slight rises behind the Unity Elementary School.

CommUnity Trail Guidelines

  • The CommUnity Trail system is open to the public.
  • Where indicated, the trails are wheelchair and stroller accessible. The Bikeway is suitable for bikes, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
  • The CommUnity Trail system is NOT open to motorized vehicles.
  • Please be respectful of the rules and all other trail users.
  • Dogs are allowed on most of the trails in the CommUnity Trail system. Dogs must be under control at all times. All waste caused by dogs must be immediately removed.
  • Sections of this system run through private property. Please stay on the marked trail and be respectful of the rights of private land owners.

Trailhead Information

US-202 TRAILHEAD
From its intersection with ME-139 in the center of Unity, go south on US-202 450 feet to the trailhead for the Bikeway and Hills to Sea Trail on the left (east), with the Bikeway continuing to the west on the right side of the road.

UNITY COLLEGE TRAILHEAD
From its intersection with ME-139 in the center of Unity, go south on US-202 0.3 miles and turn left on Quaker Hill Road. Go another 0.3 miles and turn right on Loop Road on campus. Go 0.4 miles to Lot E on the left, near the athletic fields, which is a visitor parking lot. Walk/ride up Murdock Drive and cross Quaker Road to the trail head at the corner of Quaker Road and Constable Circle.
