Description

HIGH USE TRAIL:

This is a busy trail system, especially on weekends between 9AM-4PM. Consider visiting outside of peak periods. Use Maine Trail Finder to identify other nearby trails. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, please choose another trail.

To reach the trailhead for Kurt Deiderichs Climb, proceed past the Sieur de Monts Nature Center, cross the small wooden bridge, and turn left. Pass by two large stones inscribed with "Sieur de Monts Spring" and "Sweet Waters of Acadia," then go 0.2 miles through the woods on the Jesup Path to the intersection of Kurt Diederichs Climb and Kane Path at the north end of the Tarn. The trailhead for Kurt Diederichs Climb is on the right.

Kurt Diederichs Climb ascends steeply over a series of stone steps. After 0.4 miles, it reaches a junction with the Schiff Path to the left, and the Emery Path to the right; the loop continues to the right. The Emery Path also is comprised of intricate stonework, but with much less of a grade, descending gently and with views to the east, 0.2 miles to the junction with Homan's Path. The loop heads left at this junction onto Homans Path. Homans Path descends steeply for 0.3 miles over yet more quite impressive rock work, with views of Frenchman Bay and traveling though a narrow passageway between slabs of granite along the way.

Homans Path end at the Hemlock Path. Just after a right onto the Hemlock Path is the junction with the Jesup Path, which can be utilized (to the right) to return the final 0.1 mile back to Sieur de Monts.
