The SRTS (Safe Routes to School) Trail follows Fort Kent's streets, leading users to historic attractions and connecting them to other trails in Fort Kent. As the name implies, this urban walking route is on paved roads and sidewalks and travels through residential neighborhoods, linking West Main Street with Pleasant Street, the home of Pleasant Street Academy, a one-mile stretch of roadway on which students can attend elementary school, middle school, high school, and university.
The trailhead nearest the International Bridge is only a short walk from the America's First Mile monument and its adjoining trail. On the eastern side of the trail, walkers will pass a multi-use field owned by the university, which connects to the Fournier Biological Trail and links users to the Fort Kent Outdoor Center Trails.

Town of Fort KentBecause this trail has a number of branches that all follow Fort Kent roads, there are a number of access points. However, the most convenient one is located just south of the International Bridge. To get there from the intersection of Pleasant Street and Main Street, turn left onto US-1/West Main Street and continue 0.3 miles. Parking is available at the Town Office.
